Description The proposed study investigates the Elementary and Middle School Teachers’ perceptions of the use of Technology in the classrooms prior to and during Covid-19 in the United States Virgin Islands St. Thomas/St. John School District, the outcomes associated with the system-wide implementation with a focus on challenges, value and training. Across the Virgin Islands and the United States, the system-wide implementation of technological practices within elementary and middle schools are endorsed by educators, local administrators and family engagement initiatives, but not without reservations (Stetser and Stillwell, 2014). The knowledge gained from this study will provide a deeper understanding of how remote teaching and learning can be better integrated into the classroom. The purpose of the study is to examine the attitudes of elementary and middle school level school teachers on the inclusion of technology in the classroom as part of the educational process. COVID-19 has awakened us to the reality that the typical face to face method of teaching and learning utilized across the globe by about 67.7% of total enrolled learners in 144 countries need not be the primary teaching method in an ever-growing technological age. (United Nations Educational, 2020). A study such as this have never been conducted in the United States Virgin Islands. The programs that are being used in the Virgin Islands for distant learning are “Achieve 3000” and “I-ready.” For this study, the research participants will consist of elementary and middle school teachers grades 3rd through 6th and administrators. A Survey will be used to collect the data. A mixed method research will be used to analyze the data collected from questionnaires (surveys) (Flick, 2009, Marshall and Roseman, 2006). As part of the process of securing the Institutional Review Board’s (IRB) approval, the submission of information will contain the background of the study, the purpose of the study, a description of the time commitment expected from participants, assurances that participation in the study is confidential, and any other responsibilities of the potential participants. Upon receipt of the approval from IRB, the research will commence with the data collection. Data will be collected using survey monkey and analyzed with Atlas.Ti9.
